On the Front Lines...

(Yeah Baby!)

Yesterday myself and my old man hit Lough Bane for some action, old man hasn't been fishing in months and he got a serious dose of trout fever for which there is only one cure... Big resident bows! We were pretty late getting the tin can in the water because I was glued to my bed (not literally...), and when I eventually got up the old guy rattled out a homemade boatseat before we left to save my ass a day of torture.

(Old man and the seat..)

When we arrived the lake was a sheet of glass... Typically it's not bad enough that it's a tough venue, more akin to a big fucking crater with water than a lake. There really is a lack of features unless you count deep water as a feature, because theres loads of that and not much of anything else! Well anyway before we put the boat out we could see fish moving in the surface around the top half of the lake, nymphs for the win! I laced up a floater with my deadly trio on a 20ft leader of 4x (The lake is uber clear) and we headed over directly opposite the boat dock to a bunch of reeds where we spotted a trout. With virtually no wind we didn't exactly drift so we parked the tin can about 30ft from the reeds and blasted a few casts parallel to the shore. I noticed a small opening in the reeds and was able to blast my rig right inside, ultra slow figure of eight for about 10 ft and BOOM! Now although Bane is a tough venue the result is that pretty much anything you catch in it will be frigin' mint, and this time was no exception... I hit the fish hard and played a game of down n' dirty to keep it from gaining it's freedom in the reeds, it's not enough to play a fish, you have to punch below the belt and show it who's the gamemaster! Result- 4lb of solid steel..

(Killer Choronimid..)

After that beast, old man was craving a fish so I got on the E-motor and kept the boat in line for the next hour while we chased trout around the flat calm with no result, epic fail! Then we hit the ultra deeps with a Di3 and a pair of streamers for an hour without a tap and decided to hit home.
