On February 15th the dark days came to a halt and finally some light began to show at the end of the tunnel. After a long winter the start of the trout season began, on a lone river on the east coast a few brave souls ventured out into unchartered territory to blow the dust off our sticks and nail some early season browns. When we arrived the river was pretty low and clear for this time of the year so we laced up 900mm camou leaders with .12mm diameter tippet and a couple of small beaded nymphs about 20" apart. It wasn't long before we contacted fish, mostly in the small depressions on the deck, and each would yield 2-5 trout, depending on the size of depression.

We headed further downriver after Ciaran laid eyes on a pike cruising a stretch of water down where the river dumps into "El Lago Diablo".....

We prowled around for a while trying to spot the pred, but to no avail. I'm thinking of trading some cash for a pontoon boat to get in some places like this in the near future, watch out for the revisit... Roll on March 1st!
