Mini Seatrout
The Boyne is a 10 minute cycle at most, like if your really slow, from my house and yet I tend not to go down that often even with all the free time I have because I'm just plain lazy... Last night I decided to get off the couch and hit the river hoping to dial into a few decent trout on dries. When I got there plenty of beasties were flying around the river which was a good sign although shit-all was rising, so I set up with a 9' #4 Streamflex and a 16' leader tapering down to a .12 tippet mindful of the chance of nailing a pig. I knotted up a small emerging caddis and worked it through a few sweet spots before swiftly losing it in a trout, good start... With no more of those bad boys left I threw on an oppo and worked a nice seam with a few slack line casts and lifted into a rise which resulted in the frigin shweet little seatrout pictured above.
The Great Wall
The fishing remained fairly crap until darkness crept in and I made my way up the Great Wall where I pulled a few fish up on the very right along the reeds. One of the cool things about this spot is the fact that the river on the left side of the wall is about two foot higher than the water on the right, which looks odd...
BWO's get Happy Snapped
After landing a few small trout I headed up to the creepy hollows, aptly named in my opinion as I always get a serious dose of the heeby jeebies when I fish It by myself. I changed up to a small red butt caddis (#16) and fired a few casts around before I spotted a fish rising beside a big motherfuckin' bush so I covered it with a couple of garbage casts until I hit the sweet spot, no Idea how as I couldn't tell my hand from my balls it was so dark! When I hit the fish he jumped straight away but I didn't get a good look at him so I didn't think he was a decent trout until he woke up and shot down river towards the weeds, of which there is no shortage of in the Boyne much to the trouts' delight.. Anyway I got the little badass in, although just about as I forgot my net...
Rolled out 16ish" of tape
Release...
Just after the release a gang of bats crashed the party and I know well when I'm not wanted so I pissed off home to hit the hay...
